Wesley T. Alanen

Wesley T. Alanen, age 78, of Madison, devout Christian, loving husband and father, passed away January 2, 2021, at the Lantern of Madison. He was born in Painesville, OH, on December 11, 1942, to Lina (Bell) and Tauno Alanen.
Wesley graduated from Mentor High School, then studied at Indiana Institute of Technology and graduated from deep-sea diving school in Florida. Wes was a proud veteran, serving in the US Army from 1964 through 1966. He married his Army pen pal, Gayle A. Miller, on November 25, 1967, in Lakewood, OH.
For 26 years, Wes conducted research on growing colored quartz at Sawyer Research Products in Eastlake, before turning to OSHA compliance work for several companies.
An active member of Cornerstone Friends Church, Wes served as an elder and helped with the Community Garden Program. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, organic gardening and keeping bees.
Wesley is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gayle Alanen; daughters, Virginia (Patrick) Dodge and Pamela (Robert) Luttermoser; and brother, Jack D. (Marie) Alanen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family services are being held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Wesley's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Cleveland, 23215 Commerce Park, Ste 300 Beechwood, OH 44122.
