Walter Martin

Walter Martin, age 79, of Madison, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023 at his home. He was born October 10, 1943 in Geneva, Ohio, to Helen (Maki) and David Martin.
Walter enlisted in the Air Force in 1962, and was honorably discharged. He worked at Allied Chemical, labored at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant with Local 496, and moved into chemical manufacturing at Diamond Shamrock, and retired from Ricerca. He was an avid drag car enthusiast and just loved The Thompson Drag Strip. He was the first flagger, or maybe one of the first, at the track before the red, orange, green “Christmas Tree” that today starts the race. The ’67 Camaro, known at the track as, “Tighter and Tighter”, was legendary. Walter also loved fishing and drinking…but maybe drinking a little more……….He had a great love for the Alleghany Mountains, where he longed to be.
He is survived by his sons, David Martin, Michael (Bonnie) Martin; daughter, Stacy (Scott); sister, Mary Lou Williams; grandchildren, Kyle, Aiden, Ethan, Anna, Evan, Robbie, Ashley, Hanna, Emily; caregiver and close friend, Kate Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and David.
A graveside service will be 11am, Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Madison Memorial Cemetery on Arcola Road, where Military Honors will be observed.
