Walter Frank Germack

Walter Frank Germack, age 88, of Geneva, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Western Reserve Hospice House in Euclid.
He was born May 13, 1923 in Collinwood, Ohio to Frank & Justina (Germek) Germack. Walter was a 1941 graduate from Geneva High School. Joined the Army Air Corps 1942-1945 where he was a part of the 9th Air Force 492nd Fighter Squadron. Besides being a World War II veteran, he was a part of the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. 1948-1950 Walter was a soldier of fortune as an American volunteer for the Liberation of Israel.
Walter married Gertrude (Eland) February 3, 1951 and they were together for 57 years.
He opened Germack Airport in Geneva in 1956, operating an aircraft maintenance shop for 24 years. He also taught for 12 years at the Cleveland Aviation High School.
Walter was a Harpersfield Township Trustee for 16 years and a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion George Call Post, Harpersfield Ruritan Club, Knights of Columbus, retired member of Harpersfield Fire Dept., 9th Air Force Assoc., Silver Wings Fraternity and the Assumption Church.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude and his parents.
He is survived by sisters, Helen Sands of Medina, OH, Mary Lou Throop of Geneva; Daughters, Leita (Roger) Shahan, Robin Germack & Son, Garret (Kathleen) Germack all of Geneva; 5 Grandchildren; 4 Step-Grandchildren; Five Great-Grandchildren; 9 Step-Great-Grandchildren and 4 Step-Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Friends will be received 5-8 PM, Wednesday, December 21, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 175 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio. A private memorial mass and burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.
