Veronica C.(nee Finneran) Smith, known as “Ronnie” and “Nonnie” to many, age 91, of Chardon, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023 at her home, while with her children. She was born June 26, 1932 in Zainesville, Ohio, to Veronica (Lawler) and Paul Finneran. She married Robert F. Smith in Mentor, April 4, 1994. Veronica was an educator for over 30 years, locally, at Homer Nash Kimball, teaching 1st and 3rd grades. She enjoyed sewing—it was her favorite thing of all time! Also quilting…cross-stitch, and needlepoint crafts. One of her passions was genealogy, having received a degree from Brigham Young University on the subject. She is survived by her children, Jenny Rowe, Brian Rowe, Elaine Smith Perry; daughter-in-law, Julie Rowe; grandchildren, Ethan Sherman Alshuler, Emily (Nicholas) Rowe Daniels, Steven Andrew Rowe, Alexander Richard Rowe, Joanna Perry, Samantha Perry; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nora, and Brodie Daniels; and brother, Paul J. (Millie) Finneran. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Steven Allen Rowe; and parents, Veronica and Paul. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. To Jenny, Brian and Paul,

Please accept my sincere sympathies on the loss of your mother and sister, Nonnie. As her cousin, we shared a lot of memories, laughs, history, every day, life, pretty much on a regular basis. I was glad I was able to do that with Nonnie. She always had some wise words for me, and I admired her tenacity and honesty. You will be truly missed Nonnie. Thoughts and prayers for everyone in the family. Love, Katie

  2. I am so very sorry for your loss of such a kind woman. I am Nonnie’s second cousin and only learned of her after I joined Ancestry several years ago. Her mother and my grandmother were sisters (Lawler) and her father and my grandfather were brothers (Finneran). Nonnie shared many family stories with me which I will always cherish. My continued thoughts and prayers are with the Rowe, Smith, Finneran and extended families at this time. May your Nonnie Rest In Peace. God Bless.

  3. Veronica and I went through school from grade 1 to 12 in the same building at St. Thomas Catholic School in Zanesville, Ohio and were in the last class to graduate from there in 1950. We attended the 50th and 60th reunions in Zanesville. Our continued friendship has been cherished all these years. We visited her at her home in Mentor on several occasions. Once I met her in Los Angeles when she and I visited her daughter Jenny. I am so grateful to have shard in this friendship for all these years. I know she is now at peace receiving the rewards for all the good she gave to those whose lives she touched, Mary Lou Coyle Ruane
