Vern Johnson, Age 65, resident of Geneva, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at his home. Born January 1, 1946 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Della (Pytlik) & Neal Herbert Johnson, he married Brenda Volpone in Geneva on July 3, 1971 Vern was a Mechanical Engineer at Reliance Electric and then a Quality Control Manager for Peerless-Winsmith in Warren A 1965 Graduate of Ashtabula Harbor High School, Vern attended Kent State University. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam for 13 months. Vern loved photography with a particular interest in covered bridges and wildlife and he had a passion for genealogy. A basketball and baseball coach he was also a certified umpire and enjoyed golfing. He was a former 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Vern was very active at Assumption Church where he volunteered at school fundraising events, calling bingo and the Pea Pool game at the yearly festival. People loved Vern?s humor, a light-hearted practical joker since a his youth; a trait that would continue until the last weeks of his life. His favorite answer when asked, ?How are you?? was always ?Rotten as ever!? Most of all he cherished the time spent at home with his family. He is survived by Wife, Brenda Johnson of Geneva; Sons, Daniel (Shelley) Johnson of Louisville & Philip (Crystal) Johnson of Ashtabula Harbor; Daughter, Michelle (Robert) Miklavcic of Westland, MI; Grandchildren, Brittany, Nicholas, Anthony, Joseph, Abigail, Rylee; Brother, Gary (Diana) Johnson of Sebring, FL; Sister, Sharon Allen of Newark, DE; Sister-in-law, Shirley Throop Johnson of Savannah, GA; Mother-in-Law, Crickett Volpone of Geneva; Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Brother, Dexter Johnson; Best Friend & Father-in-Law, Dan Volpone; Nephew, Ron Johnson Friends will be received 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm, Thursday, March 31, 2011, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 1, 2011 at Assumption Catholic Church, 594 West Main Street, Geneva, OH. Final Resting Place will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville. Contributions may be made to Assumption Church, 594 West Main Street, Geneva, OH 44041
