Vance D. Underwood

Vance D. Underwood, age 80, of Painesville, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in Cleveland. Vance was born in Doddridge County, West Virginia on September 17, 1934 to Edith (Wright) and Edward C. Underwood, both deceased. He married Cloretta Belle Wimer in Painesville on August 7, 1954. He attended Doddridge County High School in West Union, WV and graduated from Riverside High School in Painesville in 1953. He attended Lake Erie College on the G.I. Bill after serving in the U.S. Army. He was a Tank Commander in the 4th Armor Division from 1957-1959 in Texas and Germany. Vance retired on March 1, 1997 after 43 years with Diamond Shamrock/Occidental Chemical Company where he was a Senior Technical Service Representative. He was transferred to NY where he lived in Lewiston, NY for 10 years before returning to Painesville, OH. Vance is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Cloretta; daughters, Lisa (Joe) Vojtko of Madison and Karen Mackey of Pierpont; granddaughter, Kayla Bradford; grandsons, Andrew and Aaron Vojtko; great-grandson, Kaiden Bradford. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sharon and Phyllis; and brother, Jack. Contributions may be made in Vance's name to Hospice of the Cleveland Clinic, P.O. Box 931517, Cleveland, OH 44193-1655. Friends will be received 4 – 7 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2015 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Perry Cemetery on Center Road.
