Thurmond F. (Bud) Adkins, Jr., age 86, a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by four of his daughters on August 28, 2024, in the home of his daughter, Cheryl, in Elyria, Ohio. Bud was born on January 28, 1938, in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of Thurmond F. Adkins, Sr. and Reva M. (Slater) Adkins. Bud spent most of his career as a Maintenance Supervisor and retired from Elkem Metals. Bud served as a proud U.S. Marine and was honorably discharged on July 28, 1958. Bud was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church, where he was a Stephen Minister and proud to serve God in any capacity. Bud had many hobbies but loved passing his time farming, writing stories and poetry, painting, and playing golf. Bud loved cooking and hosting people in his home and always had a good story to share, offering laughter wherever he went. Bud loved driving in the country and never took the same route twice.

Bud is survived by his children Cheryl Garcia, Thurmond (Mary) Adkins, III., Kim (Fred) Turpin, Tina (Tim) Fuller, Tamara Adkins, Theron (Tara) Adkins, and Patricia (Rick) Monahan, along with sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 23 years, Marilyn, his best friend and brother Bob, sister Betty, brother-in-law Don, son-in-law Kevin, niece Joyce, grandson Jeremy, and grandson Tyler.

Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 South Broadway St, Geneva, Ohio. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Geneva United Methodist Church, 89 South Broadway St., Geneva. Bud’s final resting place will be Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Tyler Adkins Memorial Fund.

    • The Rev’s Jim and the late Juanita Mullins was friend to Bud at the Ashtabula Pentecostal Holiness from 1958. The Pastor was L.E. English and later we were Pastor and my dear friend Bud gave a sermon several times as we pastored for over 20 years. We always treasured our friendship to the Adkins Family.

  3. Bud was a good friend and used to come into my place of work frequently to visit and we spoke often on the phone. I have missed seeing him since he moved. My deepest sympathy goes to his family during this difficult time. He was a wonderful person and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
