July 11, 1946 ~ September 28, 2024

Thomas Michael Schimpf, age 78 of Madison, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Saturday, September 28, 2024, at UH Cleveland Medical Center. He was born July 11, 1946, in Painesville, the son of Michael E. and Angie Mae (Potter) Schimpf. He married Kevan L.( Kehl) Schimpf in Painesville, March 18, 1972, and is now reunited with her.

Tom was a loving husband, father and friend who listened openly and supported others earnestly. He retired as a Chemical Operator at the Lubrizol Corporation in 2007, but after his wife passed in 2014, found his most recent job as a merchandising specialist and delivery driver at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Tom enjoyed the comradery and making relationships with clientele during his 10 years there.

When Tom wasn’t working, he enjoyed historical documentaries, cartoons, tacos, and being disappointed in the Cleveland Browns sports team. He loved to spend time with family and friends; from recurring Taco Tuesdays to weeklong treks to cabins in the woods. He loved all his kids unconditionally and was always there to lend a helping hand. He leaves behind a legacy of being someone who lights up the room with his friendly demeanor, humor and quick-wittedness, while also taking his tasks seriously – from merchandising to house remodeling.

He is survived by his daughter, Mackenzie (Dale) Modic; sons, Corey T. Schimpf, Tyler M. Schimpf; sister, Linda (Tim) M. Golding; and sister-in-law, Karen Perkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kevan; parents; and brother-in-law, Tom Perkins Sr.

Friends will be received Friday, October 11, 2024, 4-8pm, at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison Ohio, 44057.

Tom always helped our furry friends and had a special love for his dogs and cats. Friends may contribute, in Tom’s name, to Rescue Village, 15463 Chillicothe Road, Novelty, Ohio 44072.

  1. God Speed Tom, I enjoyed working with you and just Bs’ing at work or whenever we had a chance. You will definitely be missed. My prayers and condolences to your family and please continue looking down after all of us. Much love❤️

  2. It was an honor and a privilege to have worked with Tom during the last few years. This world is a dimmer place without his light in it.

  3. Your Dad was a one of a kind person
He will be missed and remembered for the following things
Always a pleasure to be around
Worked at Lubrizol with him for almost 30 years
He was always up to something ( lol) both good and bad
Whenever I was at the auto store he would always say

    Chuck Watts AKA Pooh Bear

  4. You guys had a great Dad and Mom. Uncle Tom was always a “fun” uncle and I have precious memories going back my whole life. You all are in my thoughts and prayers and I am so sorry for your great loss. With love, Maggie ❤️

  5. My thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Tom. He was a great guy. You will be missed so very much by so many.

  6. Oh tom my poo i truly enjoyed working with you while I had my time at oreillys you are and will always be a dear friend heaven gained a beautiful angel i will miss you

  7. Tom was always so cheerful and I will miss the “oh boy the scrap man is here” as I walked through the door. We shared alot of conversations and laughs. Not to mention taco Tuesday. My thoughts and prayers are with you all family and Co workers God bless. – W.H. recycling and scrap.

  8. Long time friends with Tom’s son Corey. I remember as a kid both parents letting me come over from out of state and stay with the family and dogs for days at a time. They were fantastic hosts and people, and while I’m glad to see them reunited after so long apart, it hurts to lose significant people since my younger days. Sending love to them and surviving family as well.

  9. I knew Tom and Kevin from the early seventies and lost touch for a long time. Reunited with him one day a few years back as he was delivering parts and then at a wedding of a mutual friend. He was the same guy I new from so long ago. Always smiling and a sharp wit. He will be missed.

  10. While we did not have the pleasure to meet Tom in person, we do have the blessing of our lives being touched by the wonderful humans he raised in this world. Thank you, Tom, the legacy of your beautiful heart lives strong through them. Sure you are now resting and in reunion with the love of our life. We owe you two very big. Rest in peace.
