Thomas J. Breen
July 19, 1931 ~ September 27, 2019
Thomas J. Breen, age 88, passed away September 27, 2019. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he is predeceased by his beautiful wife, Barbara, 27 years ago, as well as his parents, Walter A. and Marcella Averman Breen of Pittsburgh, and eleven of his twelve siblings. Dearest father of Dale Breen (Yvonne) of Conifer, Colorado; Marcella Decraene (Tom) of Troy, Michigan; Kathleen Fisher (Mark) of Shaker Heights, Ohio; Melissa (Micky) Meehan (Kevin) of Lakewood, Ohio; Mindy McGinnis (Terry) of Reno, NV; and Mollie Farber (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; cherished grandfather to his 16 grandchildren, Danielle, Evan and Kayla Breen, Leanne Decraene and Allison Decraene Pokorny (Mike), Eric, Sean, Bryan and Ellen Fisher, Kelly, Connor and Kathleen Meehan, Ryan and Emma McGinnis, and Nathan and Andrew Farber. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Note of New Jersey, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom and Barbara were married June 5, 1954, and after living in both Geneva on the Lake and Pittsburgh in their early years, they permanently moved the family back to Geneva on the Lake in 1970, where Tom has lived since. A graduate of St. Francis Prep, Spring Grove, PA, Tom served with the U.S. Marine Corp following high school. Trained as a plumber by trade, he owned his own plumbing business for many years; and also worked in the construction business. In the late 1970's, Tom and Barbara owned and operated Mary's Kitchen at Geneva on the Lake for ten years.
As a boy, Tom's parents and family vacationed and developed property at Geneva on the Lake. Tom spoke often and fondly of his many memories of this time and his summers working there in the boat rental/ride business. His love for "the Lake" was born then and continued well into his later years. Dad remained at his home, watching the waves and each sunset over the lake, until his transfer to Hospice of the Western Reserve in early September, where he subsequently passed.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the many caregivers from Infinity Health Care for their devoted and compassionate care of our father for the past year; and the invaluable support of the VA Home Health team.
Friends will be received at Assumption Church, 594 West Main St., Geneva, Ohio 44041 on Saturday, October 5th from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Thomas Breen's honor to the U.S. Department of Veteran's Association (Erie, PA); the Ohio Lakefront Group (PO Box 2084, Sheffield Lake, OH 44054); or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, David Simpson Hospice House, Euclid, Ohio.
