Stuart O. Hurd

Memorial Services for Stuart O. Hurd, 88, of Madison will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 8 at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River St., Madison, Ohio. Mr. Hurd passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 Cardinal Woods Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Madison. He was born April 7, 1920 in West Farmington, to Laura Pauline (Owen) & Ralph Hurd, Sr. He married Florence Reeve in Charleston, South Carolina on January 4, 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a submarine chaser. He graduated from high school in Troy, Ohio. He was a member of the Burton/Middlefield Rotary for many years. He worked for R. L. Fritinger of Middlefield and ran Reservation Farm in Parkman, Ohio for 3 years. He then moved to Middlefield and for more than 30 years he was a truck driver and later traffic controller for Walter C. Best. He was a devoted husband and father who was never afraid of hard work. He is survived by his daughters, Janet V. Peck of Madison, Delores G. (William) Elftmann of Dunedin,FL; Sons, Stuart O. (Rhonda) Hurd II of Middlefield, Rodney W. (Nancy) Hurd of Middlefield and Barrie R.(Mary) Hurd of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; 10 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and Brother,Ralph Hurd, Jr. of Troy, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his Parents; his Wife of 65 years, Florence; Daughter, Sheryle Anne Blade and Brother, Maurice Hurd.
