Stephen “Steve” L. Merkel, since 1998 was a volunteer “Huletteer” and dedicated civic warrior with Citizens Vision in our continued efforts to preserve the Huletts Ore Unloaders, the Steamship William G. Mather, the Cleveland Lighthouse with the Foghorn building at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, Whiskey Island’s Wendy Park and many other projects and civic activities that Citizens Vision had championed and/or participated in to improve and launch Northeast Ohio into the 21st Century. Steve was also was a dedicated supporter of events honoring Veterans, the military and their families with his sound expertise and system such as Joint Veterans Council of Cuyahoga County June 14 Flag Day, U.S. Army Birthday and Naturalization Ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as well as the Equal Honor For All and then Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 15 sponsored annual commemorations of March 29th Vietnam War Veterans Day and hosted by the City of Garfield Heights. He was the webmaster of the Citizens Vision website http://www.citizensvision.org and its Treasurer. We will miss his “can do” attitude and the work ethic to deliver on it, even overnight endurance testing projects that earned him the designation of “Huletteer”.
