Sofia Applegate, age 55, of Geneva, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Hillcrest Hospital from pneumonia complications resulting in respiratory failure. She was born October 22, 1965 in Cleveland, the daughter of Gerarda (Tortora) and Pasquale Montesanto. Sofia had a passion for horses, which she had inherited from the day she was born by her father who was a professional jockey. Aside from her family, her heart forever held her beloved thoroughbred, Katie. Sofia was a jack of all trades with a large variety of talents and a natural skill for crafting. She had just begun her own crafting business called “Unique Creations by Sofia”. Her passion was being able to light up a home with every “one and only” custom piece that she had dedicated her time handcrafting to perfection. She was survived by her mother, Gerarda Montesanto (Travis Lutz); her cherished children, Audrey Marie Swope, Breanna Lynn McKinney, and Christian Matthew Applegate; her grandchildren, Hailey, Alexis, Rhyliee, and Noah; as well as her brother, Tony (Jayne) Jensen; sister, Michelle Montesanto; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Emilie, Joseph, and Dustin. Family and friends will be received 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway in Geneva. A funeral service will be held and 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2021 at the funeral home. Her final resting place will be Whitehaven Memorial Park in Mayfield followed by a celebration of life located at Hambden Town Hall, 13887 Gar Highway in Chardon, Ohio 44077.
