July 12, 1939 ~ January 11, 2022

Shirley Underwood, 82 of Madison, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior the morning of January 11, 2022 at The Preserve Senior Living at Mentor Ridge in Mentor, Ohio. She was born on July 12th, 1939 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Madison High School and then went on to Lake Erie College. She became a chemist and worked for Stauffer Chemicals in Perry, Calhio Chemicals in Perry, and Avery Dennison in Painesville. Years ago, she owned Guv’s Family Restaurant in Fairport Harbor, Ohio with her family; then went on to sell real estate with ARA Realty, Russell Thomas Realty in Painesville, and Howard Hanna Realty in Madison.  She never married or had children; she dedicated her life to her family and friends and was always there to help anyone in need. She had a smile that could light up a room. Everyone who knew her said that she made their day a little brighter just speaking with her. She was a member of Country Baptist Church in Mentor. She is survived by her sister Shela (Dan) Boyer of Madison; niece Carrie (Jeff) House of Mentor on the Lake; nephews David (Michele) Underwood of Maryland, and Kenneth (Evelyn) Underwood of Maryland. She is also survived by several dear cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Vieva Underwood; brother Vance Underwood and sister-in-law, Pearl Underwood. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and giving heart. She adored her pets and all animals. She was such a giving individual who gave to several charities including Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Rescue Village in Novelty, Ohio. She enjoyed gardening and assembling clocks. We all will miss her so very much but we know that she is at peace now. We are continuing to pray for a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. The family would like to thank Mentor Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center and the Preserve Senior Living at Mentor Ridge for their wonderful, compassionate care over the last few months. Friends and Family will be received from 11:00 to 12:00pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street in Madison.  A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 noon. Rev. Jim Henderson of Country Baptist Church will officiate her Celebration of Life. Burial will take place at Fairview Memorial Park in Madison Village. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 23215 Commerce Park STE 300, Beachwood, OH 44122 or Country Baptist Church, 9054 Lakeshore Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060.
