July 30, 1936 ~ July 19, 2023

Rose Marie Sezon, 86, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023 at Geneva, Ohio. She was born on July 30, 1936 in Saybrook, Ohio to the late Frank and Mary (Kukovic) Sezon. She was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County, graduating from Geneva High School in 1954, very proud to carry on the traditions of writing in beautiful Spencerian Script. She later graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Education. She taught numerous students at Madison High School and Geneva Area City Schools, mostly in Elementary Education, but also in typing and home economics.  Rose Marie instilled in her students the value of hard work and doing things the right way.

Rose Marie is perhaps best known for working at Eddie’s Grill with her family at Geneva on the Lake, Ohio since its founding in 1950.  At Eddie’s Grill, she instilled the Slovenian work ethic that she learned from her parents to countless employees; emphasizing quality, consistency and providing friendly customer service. She truly loved her customers who would make a point to visit her and catch up at the Grill, and she considered all those that she met as part of her extended family. She loved to write notes of appreciation in her familiar Spencerian Script handwriting.

For the past 35 years, Rose Marie was a non-Hodgkins lymphoma survivor, participating in numerous early clinical trials of cancer targeting treatments that have become more commonplace today. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, attending local events, and spending time with friends and family, including those from the Friends of the Geneva Library, Assumption Church and Geneva Women’s Club. Rose Marie loved the shores of Lake Erie, and the calming experience of watching the water, and feeling the beautiful breezes.

Rose Marie is survived by her loving brother, Eddie (Anne) Sezon; Nieces, Marianne (Richard Dana) Sezon and Jennifer (Garett) Brugger; and great-nephews, Graydon and Harrison; and great-niece Ellie. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received 11am to 1pm Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, in Geneva with a funeral service at 1pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Rose Marie’s name to Friends of Geneva Library, 860 Sherman St, Geneva, OH 44041. Final Resting Place will be Evergreen Cemetery.
