Robert W. Bob Schmidt, age 69, of Madison passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 after a 4.5 year battle with Alzheimers. Born January 19, 1948, he was the son of Betty Jane (VanMeter) and Robert George Schmidt. Bob married Linda Bell in Euclid on June 23, 1973. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 and later with the Army National Guard. Bob received a certificate in Mechanical Engineering from Lakeland College. He worked at Ski-Way Machine in Euclid, Ermco Machine in Mayfield Village and retired from Arlo Precision Products in Eastlake. Bob was a talented woodworker saying, "If I can machine steel, I should be able to machine wood." He enjoyed the work and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his wife. Bob had a good heart and an active sense of humor. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, cared for animals, and hiked often in the Metroparks. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda and their daughter Amy Lynn Schmidt. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received 2:00 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2017 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, OH 44157. Madison Final Resting Place will be Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Cleveland Area Chapter, P.O.   1. Linda and Amy…I feel so sorry for your loss…Bob and I were very close friends right after high school and after our service in the Army we grew apart…I'm sorry for that also…wish I could turn back time and have stayed close friends…
