Robert "Bob" Van Gilder

January 10, 1937 ~ September 2, 2023
Robert “Bob” Van Gilder, age 86, of Madison passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 2, 2023. He was born on January 10, 1937 in Brooks Hill, West Virginia, the son of Estel and Marguerite “Mae” (Johnston) Van Gilder. He married Nancy (Oakman) Van Gilder on May 14, 1966.
He served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. He was employed by Uniroyal Inc. for 34 years. After retirement, he then worked for TT Electronics for 13 years.
He lived most days with a twinkle in his eye and grin on his face. For fun, he spent time bowling and reading. He also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Guardians. Yet above all, he delighted in being surrounded by family and friends. Bob’s other favorite activities included teasing his grandkids and supporting them in all their endeavors. Over his life, he accumulated roughly 3000 rolls of masking tape which he used to tape many things, including garbage bags…which his family cracked up about often. His humor, work ethic and commitment to his family was legendary.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, of 57 years, he is survived by his daughters, Amy (Michael) Dekotch of Madison, and Stacy Allen of Madison; grandchildren, Cassidy Dekotch and Spencer Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mildred (Van Gilder) Register; and his brother, Hayward Van Gilder.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, September 11th, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
