Norman Knuth
May 3, 1919 ~ May 26, 2010
Norman Knuth, Age 91, of Roaming Shores, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at home.
Born May 3, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio to Gertrude (Mueller) & Arno Knuth, he married Dolores Gallupoli on September 20, 1954, in Garfield Heights.
He was a Professional Musician and Band Leader.
As a boy on the farm, Norman hooked a wire from his home-made crystal set, through the second story window of his bedroom, to the top of the silo. He sat up nights listening to broadcasts of bands from hotels and ballrooms. He loved music and that love would dominate his life. While in the Army, Norm played camp shows, service and officers clubs with a small jazz band. In the training field, he played swing music while his buddies jitterbugged. His colonel said the accordion was more important for the morale of the boys than a machine gun. In 1950-54, Norm had his own radio show, ?Starlite Time?, on WGAR-CBS. It was a daily show locally and a Saturday morning show on the CBSA network. In 1954, he became the musical director of the WTAM-NBC Orchestra of the ?Mayer and Co.? show. In 1964, Norm had one of the last staff radio shows with ?live? music in America. Norm, and his wife, Dee moved to Florida?s Palm Beach Cost in 1985. Norm met and worked with great musicians in Florida. Again, he formed his own orchestra and played engagements at many resort hotels and private clubs. Norm and Dee retired to a lakeside cottage in Ohio where he spent his final days listening to the hundreds of tapes of his radio shows and performances.
He is survived by Wife Dolores Knuth of Roaming Shores
