Norman G. Tuuri of Madison went home to our Lord on March 15, 2013. He passed away peacefully at University Hospital in Cleveland. Norm was born Sept. 17, 1925 in Painesville, Ohio to Helvi and Matt Tuuri and spent most of his life living in the Madison area. He had two brothers, Milton and Ralph, now both deceased. Norm graduated from Madison Memorial High School in 1943 where he played varsity football. A World War II veteran, Norm served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 ball turret gunner in the European theater, based in Italy. After the war ended, Norm married his high school sweetheart, Virginia "Ginny" Volante, on Oct. 5, 1946. They remained happily married for more than 66 years and had three sons. Norm retired from Ohio Bell in 1983 with over 35 years of service. He and Ginny also owned and operated the North Madison Launderama from1963 thru the early 1970's. Norm also worked part time at Erie Shores Golf Course for many years and enjoyed the camaraderie of his many golfing buddies. A devoted father who put his family first, Norm was a friend to all who knew him. Surviving family members: sons David Tuuri, Rick (Maureen) Tuuri, Howard (Lee) Tuuri, granddaughter Katie (Lucas) McCulley, grandson Kevin Tuuri, granddaughter Alex Tuuri, great grandson Jordan Tuuri-Barrett, and great granddaughter Molly McCulley. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at The Behm Family Funeral Homes, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at the funeral home. Rev. Harry Buch of Central Congregational Church will be officiating. Final Resting Place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
