November 23, 1956 ~ August 22, 2020

Michael Joseph Vrana, born November 23, 1956, passed peacefully on August 22, 2020 at the David Simpson hospice house surrounded by love. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Francis (Herb) & Vivian Vrana. He leaves to mourn; his sister, Jill Judd (Dennis), his niece Alyssa and nephew Joseph, his daughters, Claire and Audrey Zehnith and the mothers of his children Keli Zehnder and Deb Smith. Michael also leaves a wide circle of friends who loved him dearly because he was a selfless and kind man who was available to anyone who needed anything. Michael grew up in Willowick and graduated from Eastlake North High. He was a member of the 1975 State Championship Wrestling Team. Michael was a master carpenter, a brilliant photographer and a seeker of knowledge. He was also so humble that he would never admit to any of his gifts! He didn't use a lot of words, unless he was writing. He always listened to others first before offering his opinions, which were often grounded in science not emotion. He loved his family and friends deeply and was always willing to show up when needed. His life ended way too early and we will all miss him dearly. Know that Michael is off taking pictures of insects and finally not worrying about what he is eating! Enjoy the next chapter Michael, we will all be ok. Friends will be received at a Celebration of Life, to be held 2-4 P.M., Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Fat Cats, 2061 W. 10th St., Cleveland, OH. Behm Family Funeral Home of Madison is assisting the family. Online obituary and condolences may be viewed at www.behmfuneral.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. In 6th grade Mike and I played the Hawaii 5-0 theme song over and over in the band room at Willowick Jr. High when Mr. Hughes was Band Director. LOL. Mike played trumpet back then and I wailed away on piano. Mike was the bridge between the sports freaks and music nerds. His interest and energy in wrestling made us all try it. As I read the obituary, I realized he was that same person back in that band room: quiet, spoke softly, had a great laugh and did love all things. After moving to New York I lost track of him. I am sorry for that. Mike: I am still a monster piano player so I will play Hawaii 5-0 this weekend and remember our good times. RIP MIke

  2. I haven’t seen or spoken to Mike in over 40 years, but memories from our days at Kent State will always be with me. To Mike’s family: I am so sorry for your loss. God bless.

  3. We met Mike 20 years ago, and he guided us through several home renovation projects over the years. We valued his creativity, artistry and problem-solving skills. We have some beautiful carpentry projects in our home, thanks to him. We still quote some of his funny quips about people and places. Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends. —Patty and Steve Roberts

  4. After listening to Mike's tribute, I truly appreciate the time that I had being with him as a co-worker and a friend. The sentiment that he did the right thing no matter what, is so true. He was a great example of how to live your life by taking care of others. I spent so much time in his building working and hanging out. I'll always treasure those memories!

  5. My sincere condolences to Jill and her family. I last saw Michael when he was a teenager. He showed us his pet tarantula. I also attended your wedding, Jill. I am so sorry for your heartache. Virginia “Trixie” Vrana

  6. We found this picture on the roof of an addition he helped put on our home in the late 1990s. What a great guy. Our sympathies for the loss of this wonderful man.
