Matt Mike Steitz

Matt "Mike" Steitz, age 92, of Mentor, OH passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Emertius of Mentor. He was born on July 3, 1921 in Brunswick to Stephen Steitz and Anna (Berger). He married Doris Cutts on July 5, 1945 in Cleveland at Franklin Circle Church. He graduated from West Tech High School in 1939 before joining the Army, where he served through World War II and the Korean War. Later on Matt attended Bowling Green University and graduated with a degree in accounting. He went on to work for various companies as an accountant. He is survived by his children, Walter (Dorothy) Steitz and Lorelei (William) Wakenshaw; grandchildren, Christine (Richard) Steitz-Smith, Melissa (Joel) Jackson and Anthony M. Wakenshaw; great-grandchildren, Madison Smith, Jarred Smith, Finnegan Smith, and Tilly Jackson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Doris Steitz; parents; brothers, Joseph Steitz, Stephen Steitz and George Steitz; sister, Elizabeth Greco and daughter, Lenore Steitz-Nagielski. Private family services will be observed. Final resting place will be Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva. The family suggests that contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110-2602.
