Mary Ashton
August 25, 1918 ~ January 16, 2013
Mary P. Ashton, age 94, passed away January 16, 2013, peacefully with her sons present at her home which she shared with her son and daughter-in-law in Madison, Ohio. She was born August 25, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio and attended school at John Adams.
Mary and her husband, Leo, built and created their bakery "Leo's Bakery" in Mentor-on-the-Lake and conducted business there for 20 years. She was the daughter of a baker and was the wife of a baker. Her father, Francesco Sidoti, immigrated from Sicily in 1910 and her mother, Concetta, followed in 1915. They were a large family of 10 children. She enjoyed school and was active in many sports and was very proud that she was requested to write all report cards due to her wonderful penmanship.
As an adult, Mary had many life-long friends, Ester Sullivan, Ada Hagan, Sara Kubica, Anita Cantale and countless others, especially from the Madison Senior Center. She traveled often to California to see her brothers and sisters and also made a great trip with her family to Europe in 1984.
Survivors are 2 sons, Frank (Dorothy) Ashton of Madison and Mike (Lany) Ashton of Englewood, CO; 5 treasured grandchildren, Maria (Troy) Bagshaw, Kari (Jacques) Sabrie, Kathleen (Matt Furjanic) Ashton, Michael (Elizabeth) Ashton, Thomas (Trixi) Ashton; 10 beloved great-grandhildren, Ashton Sabrie, Reese Bagshaw, Emma, Lucy & Ryan Furjanic , Dagny & Clara Ashton, Samantha, Tyler & Kimberly Ashton; 3 sisters, Rose Bona of Orange, OH, Clara Alviani and Jean (Lee) Brady of Ventura, CA; brother, Frank Sidoti of Fresno, CA and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francesco & Concetta Sidoti; husband of 38 years, Leo Ashton; son, Thomas Ashton; infant daughter, Mary Lee; brothers, Joseph, Sam, Pete & Tony Sidoti; sister, Florence Kohlmyer.
Friends will be received 2-5 PM, Sunday, January 20, 2013 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Monday, January 21, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio followed by a luncheon at the church hall. Final resting place will be All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio.
