Lillian Wakelee

Lillian (Katila) Wakelee, 86, of Painesville, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2009 Lake East Hospital in Painesville, Ohio. Born May 26, 1922 in Fairfield, Georgia to Hilja (Hemming) & Issac Katila. Formerly was a clerk at Real Estate Transfer office in Lake County, retiring in 1995. She grew up on the family homestead in Painesville and enjoyed traveling and camping at parks in the United States and Canada. She was a 1940 graduate of Harvey High School and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had been active in PTA and various school functions supporting her sons? activities. Was a longtime member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Painesville and served on various committees. Lillian was a Cub Scout den mother for 6 years. She had been active during her retirement in the Red Hat Society, the Diamond Garden Club, and St. Paul?s senior group. She enjoyed the sights of Lake Erie, gardening, nature, luncheons & outings with her granddaughters and friends. She is survived by 3 sons,Tom Wakelee of Geneva, Terrence (Vicki) Wakelee of Perry, Bob (Barb) Wakelee of Renton, WA; 2 Granddaughters, Jessica of Tucson, AZ & Alison of Mentor. She was preceded in death by her Parents and Brother, Veikko Katila A Memorial Service will be announced and held at a later date at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Painesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul?s Lutheran Endowment Fund, 250 Bowhall, Painesville, OH 44077.
