Leroy "Red" Smallwood
September 19, 1946 ~ October 12, 2019
Cancer is a bitch, it hounded Red for two years until it claimed yet another victory over an honorable man. He will be mourned but more importantly he will be remembered.
He will be remembered for loving boating on Lake Erie. A past member of FHYC he spent endless hours teaching his sons, family members and friends how to waterski and wakeboard as he joyously sped along the shoreline.
He shared his interest in aircraft history with his sons. He lovingly drove and restored but mostly worked on his vintage Fiat ,which he steadfastly displayed at car shows (where it was regularly shunned by Chevys and Fords )
Friends will remember that Red couldn’t have a short conversation, he always had little known facts to add spice to and lengthen his stories.
He was very proud of his sons. Red thought his grandchildren were perfect and would laud their praises loud and really, really long to anyone that showed the slightest interest.
He will be remembered by family and grandchildren but sadly memories will fade and future generations will not have benefited from sharing stories and making new memories with Red.
