Leo C. Bemis, age 88, a resident of Geneva, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Sep. 29, 2007, at Rae-Ann Geneva in Geneva, Ohio. Born Dec. 26, 1918, in Spartansburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Lenah (Watson) and Clarence Bemis. On Sep. 3, 1943, he married Dorothy Willey in Crawford County, Pa. Mr. Bemis served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps in the European Theatre. A Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, he was a graduate of Edinboro University and also received a Master?s in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Bemis was an Associate Professor of Education and Director of Intramural sports. He established the soccer program and served as the soccer coach for 36 years. He later served as soccer coach at Robert Morris University. Mr. Bemis was inducted into the Edinboro University Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. He was a member of Peoples Church in Geneva, ODK Fraternity and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bemis of Geneva; daughter, Marcia (Greg) Scafuro of Geneva and two granddaughters, Briana and Chelsea. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet E. Bemis, in 2004; a son, Richard Bemis; and two brothers. Funeral Service will be Noon Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, with the Rev. Jim Walker, of Peoples Church, officiating. Final resting place will be at Harpersfield Cemetery in Harpersfield Township.Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Peoples Church, 300 S. Ridge E., Geneva, Ohio, in his name.
