Larry J. Powers

Larry Powers, Age 64, of Perry and formerly of Madison, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008 UH Extended Care Campus in Munson Township. Born July 11, 1944 in Milan, Indiana, to Viola (Snyder) & Christopher J. Powers and married Carol Calhoun on December 21, 1968 in Lawrence, Kansas. Worked at Ricerca for 27 years, retiring in 2002 as a Business Unit Director. Previously was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee Medical Units in Memphis, Tennessee. Larry was a Graduate of Purdue University and received his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Kansas University. Was a member of the American Chemical Society for over 45 years. Also a member of the Painesville United Methodist Church. Larry coached in the Madison Youth Soccer League, helped organize the initial British Tour in 1988. He was an avid woodworker and built fine furniture for his family members and also enjoyed helping his wife with gardening projects around their home. He is survived by Wife: Carol Powers of Perry; Son, Dan (Shannon) Powers of Stow; Daughter, Kathleen (Nick) Walker of Austin, Texas; 3 grandsons, Connor, Aidan, & Ethan, plus a fourth grandson due this month; Sister, Mary Lou Powers of Dillsboro, Ind. He was preceded in death by His Parents Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date at the Painesville United Methodist Church.
