August 15, 1949 ~ March 18, 2023

Kathleen Elizabeth Douglas, Age 73 of Madison, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Geauga Medical Center in Chardon, Ohio, after complications from a recent heart attack. Kathleen worked as a Critical Care Supervisor at Hillcrest Hospital until her retirement. She spent her life in service to others.  She grew up working at Madison Village Nursing Home, where her mother was Director of Nursing.  After completing her LPN training, she worked at various nursing and hospital facilities. She later completed her RN training at Lakeland Community College, earning the College’s award for Highest Scholastic Achievement.  This was quite an accomplishment for the first college graduate in the family. She went on to be an Emergency Room Nurse and then the Critical Care Supervisor at Hillcrest Hospital, overseeing the Emergency Room, Critical Care, Step Down and Neo-Natal Resuscitative Care.  Many people enjoyed additional months and years with their families because of the life saving measures Kathleen or the staff she trained employed. Kathleen & Jerry were married for 55 years. They were completely committed to one another and raising their son, Shawn, who became the second college graduate in the family, with ample amounts of coaching from his mom. Kathleen’s “Second Act” was to retire from her position with Hillcrest Hospital, become a full-time “Nana” and help raise her two grandsons.  She read to them endlessly, played with every toy imaginable and created many unique games and activities.  She made an entire ”home box” with hand painted decorations from a large box accompanying an appliance delivery.  The boys played in the home box for countless hours.  She became an expert in Thomas the Tank Engine, Magnetics toys and everything little boys loved. Kathleen was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Marsh; mother, Clatus Marsh; brother, Melvin Marsh Jr; and sister, Nancy Kirk.  She is survived by her brother, Louis Marsh (wife Karen); sister, Cynthia Caplinger (husband Randy); husband, Jerry Douglas; son, Shawn Douglas (wife Rebecca); grandson, Collin Douglas (fiancé Raven Morgan) and grandson, Gavin Douglas. Friends will be received from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, located at 2846 Hubbard, Madison, Ohio 44077 at 11:00 a.m. on March 24, 2023. Final Resting Place will be at North Madison Cemetery. Online obituary and condolences may be viewed at www.behmfuneral.com
