Joyce A. Swanson

Joyce A. Swanson, age 70 of Saybrook, went home to be out of pain and with her loved ones in heaven on Friday, January 21, 2011.
Born December 30, 1940 in Geneva, Ohio to Eleanor (Coursume) Henderson & Clifford William Henderson. She married the love of her life, Carl William Swanson of Ashtabula on June 9, 1962.
A 1958 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she received her Bachelors degree from Kent State University. She worked as a Special Education teacher in Champion, and taught K-8 at Buckeye and Ashtabula before retiring.
Joyce was proud to be the oldest of five sisters and enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Saybrook United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 25 years and was the Head of Missions for 10 years. She also was the treasurer of La Leche League and taught the principals of natural childbirth at Warren Trumbull and Ashtabula Hospitals. Joyce enjoyed gardening, swimming, reading, aerobic dancing and gymnastics. She also loved spending time with family, especially her Husband Bill. Camping out west, hiking, photography and traveling were just some of her many hobbies. Out of 48 years of being married to Bill, Joyce particularly enjoyed their 35th wedding anniversary cruise around the Hawaiian Islands.
She is survived by Husband Carl ?Bill? Swanson of Saybrook Township;
Son, Steven William (Dawn) Swanson of Cleveland; Daughter, Amanda Claire (Scot) Busser of Farmdale;
Grandchildren, Mikayla Wilpula, Monica, Philip, and Spencer Busser;
Sisters, Jean L. (Michael) Gyure of Raleigh, NC, Joan E. Henderson of Lyndhurst, Betty J. (Joseph) Kelly of Boulder, CO; Brother-in-Law David VanDusen of Madison
She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Eleanor Henderson and her sister Edith VanDusen.
Memorial Service will be 11:00am on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 South Depot Road, Saybrook, Ohio. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service.
