Joseph E. Beres, 84, of Painesville Township, passed away while with his wife at The Lantern of Madison, Tuesday January 17, 2017. He was born in Painesville, Ohio to Mary (nee Buckrich) and Joseph Beres on February 11, 1932.
Joe graduated from Fairport Harding High School in 1950. He enlisted in the Navy and fought in the Korean War as the radar man on a P2V Neptune Patrol Bomber. He was very proud of his service. After he came home Joe married the love of his life, Carol Hill in June 1955, and they started a family. Joe was a banker for 37 years and after retirement became a corrections officer at the Lake County Jail for 8 years. He served as a volunteer on the Fairport Harbor Fire Dept. and was instrumental in building the Fairport Harbor boat ramp. Among his many endeavors and responsibilities, he was a member of Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. Joe was an avid reader, going to the library 2 and 3 times a week. He supported his family and withstood the kids' fantastic band concerts, plays, and athletic endeavors. Handy and helpful, he was generous beyond bounds, always putting others first.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol; children Mark J. Beres, Michael H. (Catherine) Beres, Matthew R. (Stephanie) Beres, Margaret J. Puskas; grand children Dylan, Trevor (Jennifer), Colin (Kyle), Devin (Jaclyn), Hope, Eva; great grand children Rebecca, Samuel, and Logan. Joe is predeceased by his parents and brother James J. Beres.
Private family services are being observed. Final resting place will be Painesville Riverside Cemetery.
The Behm Family Funeral Home of Madison is serving the Beres family during this time of need.
The family suggests charitable donations be made in Joe's name to the Morley Library, 184 Phelps St, Painesville, OH 44077.

Carol, So sorry to hear about Joe. He and I go back a long way starting with St. Anthony's and Harding High School. I'll miss seeing him at the Fairport Community days, he was a good friend.
To Carol and the entire Beres family…I met Joe in 1966 when we both worked at LCNB. No one could have asked for a better co-worker and I'm honored to have called him a friend. All the best….Roger Smart

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I will always have very fond childhood memories of time spent with Aunt Carol and Uncle Joe. Sending prayers to you Aunt Carol and the entire family.
Along time ago, on Oldsmar Drive, in Madison you were next door to my family. I loved playing with the boys and was very sad to see you move. Later on Joe helped me to get hired at LCNB in downtown Painesville. I still carry fond memories of you all. My prayers and condolences to all of your family.
