John W. Messenger Jr, age 72, of Perry passed away Tuesday, August 31 at Tri Point Medical Center. He was born September 12, 1948 in Rochester, PA the son of John William Messenger Sr. and Dorothy Jane (Turney) Messenger. John was raised in New Brighton, PA, graduated from Point Park College in Pittsburgh with his degree in Engineering Technology. He married Arlene Stuber on April 17, 1982 and they would make their home in Perry, OH for the last 32 years.
John worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Townsend and Bottom Co and the Gilbert Commonwealth Inc. and he retired from First Energy Corporation Perry Nuclear Power Plant as a Senior Quality Specialist.
John enjoyed classic car cruises to show off his 1964 Red Ford Falcon Sprint convertible. He loved seafood. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also loved the spirit of baseball and was a big supporter of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians.
He is survived by his wife Arlene; son, Derek J. Messenger; and mother, Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends will be received 10am-12pm, Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Behm Family funeral Home, 26 River St., in Madison. A Funeral Service will follow at 12pm with Rev. Liz Krall officiating. Contributions may be made in John’s name to Perry United Methodist Church, 3875 Main Street, Perry, OH 44091.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I first worked with John as a resource sharing QC inspector from Davis Besse. He was a great guy to work with in QC and always welcomed us outsider with open arms. He was always good for a good laugh about something. QC (retired) Dick Cockrell

Arlene and family, It has bern an honor being with you and John at TriPoint Medical Center. John was a man of great courage and love and loved you all soo very much. John and your family are all being remembered in my Sunday and Labor Day Masses. May our Lord's peace and comfort be with you all.
My condolences to the family and friends mourning the loss of John. He was a man of great candor and had a fantastic sense of humor. He was a life long neighbor and my siblings and I grew up with Derek. He had incredible work ethic and loved his family dearly. My father David Beashau who passed in 2004 worked with John at the Perry Power Plant and was close friend with John. He will be awaiting him in heaven with a frosty beer and surely some razzing. Keeping Arlene, Derek, and Dorothy in our thoughts.
John was a life long neighbor and great friend to the Beashau family. His candor, dedication to his family, and humor will be remembered. RIP Johnny

John was a wonderful person to work with (24 yrs+) and enjoy a drink with. Though a avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan I accepted that short coming and always enjoyed his ability to just enjoy life. I first met John in the mid '80s at the Perry Plant, and we quickly became friends. At and outside of work, John's sense of humor would always brighten my day. My condolences to all of his family and friends.
