John Thomas Hill, age 77, longtime Perry resident, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at UH Geauga Medical Center. He was born October 3, 1938 in Berea, Ohio the son of Daniel J. and Evelyn Rose (nee Long) Hill. John married the love of his life, Persis Frey on August 21, 1965 in Painesville, Ohio. He served our country proudly in the United States Army. John was employed with Ohio Rubber for over 30 years and also Myers Products. After retirement he enjoyed doing construction and remodeling projects. John loved spending time in the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, taking walks at the river, observing wildlife and tending to any stray animals that came by the house. He also enjoyed trips to the casino and betting on the ponies. John was a huge baseball fan, and played with a Baltimore Farm Team in the minor leagues. Above all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Bonnie Kay (Ron) Merrill, Thomas D. (Lene) Hill, Richard L. (Nancy) Gilbert and Persis Joanne (Brian) Jackson; grandchildren, Katrina Schneider, Cynthia Gilbert and Jacqueline Jackson; two great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Ann (Charles) Chiplis, Jean (Hill) Piercy and Sue Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Persis Hill; son, Clifton James Gilbert; two brothers; a sister; and many loved ones gone on before him. A celebration of life will be held at the Lake Erie Bluffs Shelter, 3301 Lane Road Perry Township, OH 44081, On April 8th, 2016 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Perry Cemetery with his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of John may be given to the Disabled Veterans, VA Regional Office, 1240 E. 9TH Street, Rm.1017-B, Cleveland, Ohio 44199 The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio is assisting the family.
