John Robert Katona, age 90 passed away March 31, 2021 at David Simpson Hospice House. He was born May 2, 1930 in Duquesne, PA the son of John and Mary (Estu) Katona. John served in the Army during the Korean War and married the love of his life, Edith Campana on August 25, 1956 in Painesville. For over 30 years John was a science teacher and athletic director for the Willoughby-Eastlake School System. He also worked as a teacher for Lake County Head Start program. John also worked part time as a night manager for Giant Tiger department store, as well as working many years for Capitol Beverage in Kirtland. He helped with school fundraisers and was always busy and active in his community. Yet with all of this, his main goal in life was taking care of his family, working hard and making sure everyone was safe and healthy. John leaves behind his wife, Edith of 64 years; children, Lee (Denise) Katona, Robert (Linda) Katona, Dawn Katona; grandson, Michael (Annette) Katona; step-granddaughters Kristi and Ashley Donaldson; great-grandchildren, Colette and one baby on the way; siblings, Richard (Bertha) Katona and Delores (Richard) Preston; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Leslie and Donald Katona. Friends will be received 10 am to 12 noon on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26, River St. in Madison with a service immediately following at 12 noon. Guests are required to follow pandemic guidelines and practice social distancing. Final Resting place will be Perry Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the Hospice of Wester Reserve.
