John J. Bodnar, 63, of Madison, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland. Born Dec. 31, 1947, in Cleveland to Mary (Mohnacky) and John Francis Bodnar, he married Deborah Painter Nov. 24, 1979, and renewed their vows at Immaculate Conception Church May 19, 1998. He was a former teacher at Padua High School and an inspector at Astro Medical. He was a 1965 graduate of Padua High School, received his bachelor's degree in 1969 from Bowling Green State University and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Philatelic Association and American Society of Quality. John enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Bodnar of Madison; daughters, Ilona (Carl) Whelpley of Perry and Tisha (Mark) Somich of Chardon; grandchildren, Samantha, Cole, Jessica and Alexis; mother, Mary Bodnar of Parma; and sister, Kathleen (Nick) Nicklaus of LaCross, Wis. He was preceded in death by his father, John Francis Bodnar. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St. Madison. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison. Final resting place will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
