WW II Vet and Devoted Family Man
John H. ?Jack? Bodle died Friday, January 23, 2009 in Medina, Ohio at the Western Reserve Masonic Community where he had resided since August 2006 with his wife of 26 years, Audrey Gigliardi Bodle. He was 90 years old. Mr. Bodle?s first wife, Ruth Albert Bodle, died in December 1980. Mr. Bodle was born in Glen Hope, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania on April 3, 1918, the sixth child of Rachael and Benjamin Bodle.
Cause of death was due to complications from Congestive Heart Disease.
A long-time resident of Lake County, he and his wife, Ruth, moved to Painesville in 1945 from Baden, Pennsylvania. They moved to Madison in 1951 and John remained a Madison resident until 2006.
Over the course of 50 years, Mr. Bodle worked for The Industrial Rayon Company, the City of Painesville Municipal Power Plant, and the power facility at Lake County East Hospital. Following retirement, he worked part time at the Carlisle Store in Madison even playing Santa at Christmas time.
Mr. Bodle served in the US Army Corp of Engineers during WWII and was a long time member of Chapel United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #601 and the Lake Shore Masonic Lodge #307 all of Madison.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; his son, William Bodle of Carrollton, Ohio; his daughter, Mrs. Susan (Stephen) Cross of Atlanta, Georgia; five step-children, Mrs. Karin (Tim) Wilson of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Teresa (Brad) Oswalt of Alabama, Charles, Michael, and Thomas Gagliardi of Ft. Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth and his eldest daughter, Mrs. Nancy (James) McBane of Bergholz, Ohio. He was grandfather to eleven, great grandfather to thirteen and step-grandfather to eight.
Friends and family will remember ?Jack? for his easy laugh and his love for and enjoyment of family. He smiled with pride at family weddings, took grandchildren on walks with an ever faithful dog, and strongly encouraged his extended family to pursue their educations, attending as many family graduations as he could. There was nothing he liked better than a summer cookout that included fresh Lake County corn-on-the-cob.
Calling hours will be held 6-8:00 pm, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River St., Madison, Ohio.
Funeral Service will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the funeral home.
Final resting place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
