John Cross

John Cross, age 82 of Madison, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at his home. He was born June 5, 1936 in Detroit, MI the son of the late John “Jack” and Rachael (Peterson) Cross. He married Judith Lindsey on August 13, 1960 in Toledo. A 1958 graduate of The University of Michigan, John was a passionate Wolverines fan. He was active in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity where he met many lifelong friends. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Toledo and worked in several management positions in rubber manufacturing. He retired as the Senior Vice President of Chardon Rubber in 2001. He served on the Chardon School Board for six years. Honest and hardworking, John was a man of great integrity and was highly respected by those with whom he worked. John loved to golf and travel with his wife, Judy, to their cottage in Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Judith; children: Daniel Cross of Newnan, GA; Amy (Mark) Shafer of Elgin, IL; Katharine (Robert) Cromer of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren: Rachael Cross, Jane, Sara, Robert, and Anna Cromer, Ryan and Molly Shafer; sister: Emily (Richard) Durbin of Aurora and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Matthew. Friends and family will be received from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street in Madison. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. John’s Nephew, Michael Durbin, will officiate the service.
