John Alexander Patfield
October 10, 1965 ~ July 22, 2026
Born in: Cleveland, Ohio
With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of John Alexander Patfield, who left us on July 22, 2026, at the age of 60. John was born on October 10, 1965, in Cleveland, OH, to Dr. Jorge Medina, and Francis Patfield.
John spent most of his early life in Ohio, graduating from Mentor High School, and continuing on to work as a maintenance supervisor. He started his first business, Commercial Truck, in 1994. However, that was only the beginning of his career endeavors. John received his certification to become a firefighter and EMT in 1997, and proceeded to work in multiple Ohio fire departments all while running his full-time business. In 2013, John moved to Florida to escape the cold frost of Ohio’s winters, and continued his career as a maintenance man at Boca Raton Fire Department. Eventually, he left that job to work for Matheny Fire and Emergency as an operations manager.
John was a huge family man. His family was of the utmost importance to him, and he adored spending time with them in any way he could. He had a huge heart, and always wanted to make sure that those he loved had everything they needed. Memories and experiences were everything to him–some of his favorites being the good ol’ days of riding his motorcycle in the summer heat.
He is survived by his daughter, Taylor Patfield; son, Brandon Patfield; fiancee, Dorothy Daniele; and half-sister, Lannie Medina.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his half-sister, Cindy Patfield.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 10AM-1PM at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, 3800 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill, FL 33311.

I’m John’s big sister, Lannie (MariaElena). I love him deeply as we’ve been in each others lives for over 50 years. Given our families were at odds, we used to get together discreetly, hanging out at coffee shops, bowling alleys and other fun places.
We understood that we had gone through tough stuff given the chaos and learned how to navigate. And yes I have lots of great stories over 50 years.
Back in 1985 I promised our Dad I would help John from afar or near and Dad was so grateful for this.
John was the cutest toddler who loved his red fire engine (he had more than one). So in love with mechanics I gave him my matchbox collection. Hope they make their way to Taylor and Brandon.
John was very good at engineering which I believe he inherited from our Dad.
More so though he was always very loving with me and supportive. I am so grateful for the time we had.
Most important is he loved his children Taylor and Brandon more than anyone and always wanted to be a great father. He bragged about them and worked to understand their paths in life. When we all got together later in life the kids finally met and it was amazing how much our daughter Olivia is like Taylor. No accident — it’s DNA.
For John, rest in your power. Know how many love and loved you. Thanks for the signs you send from your spot above. You deserve all the peace and kindness I pray you are getting. See you when I join you and we’ll go grab some chow and go bowling in heaven. Love you so much. Your big sister and fan, Lannie.
