John A. Zapp, Jr.

John A Zapp, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2017 at the David Simpson Hospice House in Euclid. Born September 14, 1943, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, he grew up along the shores of Lake Erie before moving with the Zapp family to Madison in 1959 where he lived the remainder of his life.
A graduate of Madison High School, John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 until 1965, and after being honorably discharged from the military, he worked initially for Lincoln Electric before settling in the telecommunications industry as a craft employee for Ohio Bell. John worked for Ohio Bell (Ameritech, SBC) until early retirement in 1991 as a network staff engineer in the Cleveland office. John went to work for Alltel / Windstream in 1995, before joining AT&T again in 1998, where he worked until he retired in 2006. Known for his quick-witted humor and a tender, compassionate heart, John was the eldest son of eleven children. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, mostly engines, race cars, and tractors. He loved spending time with loved ones, especially in the comfort of his own home.
Proceeded in death by father, John A Zapp, Sr. mother, Tressa Zapp, son, Robert Zapp, and granddaughters Samantha and Sydney Zapp. He is survived by his companion of thirty-two years, Diana Dee Dee Popovich, son David A Zapp, Sgt Major, USMC Retired (Holly), son Jeffrey A Zapp (Laurie), granddaughters; 1st Lieutenant Ashley Zapp, USAF, Alexandra Zapp, Gabrielle Zapp, and grandson, Joseph Zapp. Surviving siblings; Phyllis Gum, Lillian Hupertz, Robert Zapp, Rosie Zapp, Tressa Beech, Alex Zapp, Carol Zapp, Richard Buckwheat Zapp, Danny Zapp, and Marilyn Scullin.
Private family serivces will be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of John to the Hospice of the Western Reserve (hospicewr.org).

I am so sorry about John's passing away and you all have my deepest sympathy . I remember seeing John when he was born to my Aunt Tressa and Uncle John. They were so excited to have that little boy. He has now joined his parents. God bless all of you.
