John A. “Jack” Terchek
January 10, 1940 – July 9, 2020
Jack, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2020 due to complications from prostate cancer. He was loving husband to his precious Marilyn (Blazek) and proud parent to Sean Terchek and Jennifer Terchek (husband Scott LaLoggia), dear brother to Ronald (Mary), James (Cathryn), Marylyn Dallas (James Matthew), and Joan Barker (David). He also leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jack served two years in the US Army with the First Armored Division as a military policeman.
Jack graduated from Kent State University in three years earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting, with honors. Immediately after graduation he passed the CPA exam and began working with Peat Marwick. His career then took him to the Internal Revenue Service where he worked his way up to appellate conferee. Always looking for a challenge, Jack started his own successful business as a State Farm Insurance agent where his worked for 28 years until retiring.
Long before his retirement, he enjoyed going to the gym several times a week for lengthy workouts. He did this until the last few months of this life. He always said the workouts provided him with a “natural high” and went a long way in eliminating stress and anxiety. He was also an avid reader who enjoyed topics ranging from business to local and international affairs.
Anyone who knew Jack could always count on a good conversation and plenty of free advice.
He would like to thank the Cleveland Clinic oncology doctors, nurses, and staff who were able to add several productive, happy, and pain free years to his life. The family is grateful to Hospice of Western Reserve that stepped in during Jack’s final weeks and provided superb care and comfort until his final day.
Mass of Christian Burial will be July 13, 2020 at 12:00 pm at St. Cyprian Catholic Church. Viewing will begin at 11:00 am at St. Cyprian located at 4223 Middle Ridge Road, Perry, Ohio.
Jack always said no one should go to bed hungry. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food center.
Those attending the church Visitation and Mass are urged to please wear masks as well as to practice social distancing.
