Joanne Vandervort
July 30, 1931 ~ July 17, 2024
Joanne Vandervort, age 92, of Perry, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born July 30, 1931, in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Lilliock) Miller.
Joanne retired from Neff-Perkins and spent her time traveling across the United States with her beloved bowling league and friends. She was an avid sports fan, always cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Guardians. She was a kind, giving, and helpful soul who enjoyed attending First Baptist Church of Perry and helping her community. She enjoyed solving difficult crossword puzzles and playing along with her favorite daytime gameshows. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and watching all her grandchildren grow. She was the rock and support system of our family; always there to cheer us on, and there to build us back up during hard times. The love she gave was endless and will forever be cherished.
She is survived by her daughter, Valarie Sullivan of Painesville; grandchildren, Katherine (David Rose) Sullivan of Hope Mills, Matthew (Michaela) Manross of Painesville; great grandchildren, Azrael Manross and Kurt Manross; sisters, Margaret Yarcusko of Camano Island and Phyllis (Bud Largent) Roth of Madison, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald “Duke” Miller; and ex-husband, Arthur Vandervort.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 4:00PM at Perry First Baptist Church, 3918 Main Street, Perry, OH 44081.

I am so sorry for your family’s loss. Many blessings for all.
My sister Jo. What a gal. We grew up doing everything together. She taught me to ride a bike by pushing me downhill and I had to figure out how the brakes worked! She was generous to a fault. Her family knew where to go if they were a little short.. But most of all she brought me to Christ. At a service when the altar call went out she grabbed me and made me go to the front of the church. I’m glad she did. We were close, took a lot of road trips together. She always had my back, and when I see her again we will talk and laugh about the things we did.
Sail on, dear sister., and take my eternal love with you.
Your loving sister,
Margaret
It’s hard to lose someone who has been always been in your life. I remember helping at Isaly’s, boisterous family holidays at Aunt Jo’s and the many road trips she and my mom would make to visit me in the west. I would never miss a visit with my aunties when I visited Madison. She loved her grand and great grandchildren. And her beloved Steelers. I will miss our phone conversations and her positive outlook.
Rest in peace, Auntie Jo
With love,
Susan
Oh one more thing mom and I remember is Aunt Jo’s ability to have an appetite, and no matter where or why we went somewhere we had to stop for “a bite to eat “!
