JoAnne Dempsey, 78 of Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Western Reserve Hospice House in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on August 11, 1945 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Paul and Alina (Nordtume) Grafelman. JoAnne was a 1963 graduate of Walker High school in Walker, Minnesota. She then went on to graduate from Lakeland Community College with an Associate Degree. She was a retired legal secretary. JoAnne was one of the founding members of Meals on Wheels in Madison that is now the Lake County Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed collecting seraphim angels, reading, crocheting, painting, needlepoint, cross stitch but most of all she enjoyed her two cats Gizmo and Gadget. JoAnne is survived by her son Steven Dempsey of Madison, Ohio. She is also survived by her brothers John (Jean) Grafelman of Woodbury, Minnesota, Jim (Mary) Grafelman of Rhineland, Wisconsin and nieces and nephews, Katie Grafelman, Andrew Grafelman, Paul Grafelman and Ben Grafelman. Funeral Services will be held, Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3 p.m. and will be officiated by Reverend John Germaine at Behm’s Family Funeral Home, 26 River Road, Madison, Ohio. Calling hours will be held from 1-3 pm before the funeral service. Should friends desire, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, The Alzheimer’s Association or The Lake County Meals on Wheels @ 8520 East Avenue, Mentor, Ohio 44060. JoAnne and I were close as kids. She always called me her little Jimmy. After my heart surgery she called me every week to see how I was doing. She was a very caring person and did so much for me as I was growing up. I will miss her and look forward to seeing her again in the presence of Jesus Christ our Savior.
