Jo Ann (Yurkonis) Klaus, age 82, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023. She was born July 4, 1940 in Shamokin, PA the daughter of Verna (Pencoski) and Edward Yurkonis. A 1957 graduate of Shamokin High School, Jo Ann moved to Ohio in 1962. On June 9, 1990, she married her beloved husband, the late Anthony Klaus. Jo Ann worked for Master Builders in Cleveland from 1967-1991 and then for Perfection Corporation until 2005. Upon retirement, she worked at Rae Ann Skilled Nursing in Geneva. Jo Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren playing pinochle and board games. Jo Ann is survived by her sons, Garry (Dianna) Culton, Edward (Karen) Culton; step-son, Frank (Teresa) Carter; grandchildren, Chad (Mary) Culton, Ebony (James) Lucas, Corry Culton; and several nieces and nephews. She was known as “Old Nana” to her great grandchildren, Payton, Callie, and Cliff, whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; parents; brother, Edward “Ted” Yurkonis; sister, Nancy Zarkoski; and best friends, Tom and Jerry. Jo Ann loved her “Work Family” and her family would like to thank all of her friends at Rae Ann and Hospice who helped her to the end. Friends will be received 4-7pm, Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10am, Friday, July 7, 2023 at Assumption Church, 594 West Main St., in Geneva. Final Resting Place will be Harpersfield Township Cemetery.
