Resided in: Madison, OH

Jeffrey “Smokey” Fade, 66 from Madison, Ohio received his final checkered flag August 15,2025 surrounded by family after a short battle in the hospital.

He was a loving father to Jennifer Fade, Jillanne (Jimmy) Dougherty, Jeffrey (Lindsey) Fade Jr and a devoted friend to the mother of his children, Sharon McCarthy. A loving grandfather of Jordan, Kayla (Kimmy), Austin (Karleigh), Lorelei, Peyton and Brystol. A loving brother of Andy Fade and Sandi (Duane) Breedlove. A loving uncle to Nicole (Tim) Rees and great uncle to Ava Rees.
He’s preceded in death by his parents, Veronica and Frank Fade of Madison and his granddaughter, Ciara Rachelle.

Those of you who knew Smokey knew his love and passion for racing. Lorain county speedway was his home where he was tech official and race director for a long time. A lot of his time revolved around the race track and working alongside his son in the garage building race cars.

If he was not at a racetrack or in the garage he was supporting his grandchildren in one way or another. They were his greatest passion. There was nothing he would not do for them. Whether it was wearing matching pajamas to the Polar express, making sure they got the best prizes for their fundraisers, or cheering them on in whatever extracurricular activities they chose to do. He was the greatest Dad and Papa. This family will always have an empty chair where only he fit perfectly.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Today I went to watch my first race at midvale raceway with my son and a special friend of his. Great time, and was left with a special reminder from a person who I had just a brief conversation with. Jeff Fade Jr. As it started to rain before his feature i fou d myself in his trailer seeking shelter and looking at the front of a car with pictures of a lot of memories obviously good cherished ones. It’s was a testimony to the love of god in the fact that storms will come in all different forms in life but it’s is those memories that are so important for us to make with our love ones and not put off that will give us the strength to get back up and go back out there and run our race till God gives us our checker flag. I believe that delay was Smokey using his birthday wish up in heaven to have that race start after midnight the 4th so he could look down and see his family and friends still in the race and not given up and that my friends is how champions are born when you have passion for more than yourself and love grows. Thank you God for families and friends like this it is what keeps these cars and this world going around and round
