Resided in: Chardon, Ohio

Janette Marie Sommer, 66, of Chardon, Ohio, passed away on June 10, 2026, surrounded by the

love of her family.

Born on December 7, 1959, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Janette was the cherished daughter of Max and

Helen (Starzynski) Obhof, both of whom preceded her in death. Raised on a farm in Austinburg,

she developed a strong work ethic, deep family values, and a love for the outdoors that would

remain with her throughout her life.

A proud 1978 graduate of Geneva High School, Janette dedicated 36 years of service to De Nora

as a Plant Buyer in Supply Chain Management. She was known for her commitment,

dependability, and tireless work ethic. De Nora was a significant part of her life, and she had

been looking forward to her retirement at the end of 2026. The values of hard work and

perseverance that guided her career were rooted in her upbringing on the family farm.

Janette shared 18 wonderful years with her loving partner, Ken Townsend. Together they

enjoyed many adventures, especially side-by-side rides, spending time outdoors, and making

memories with family and friends.

Above all else, Janette’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to Dustin

(Melody) Sommer and Joshua (Rachael) Sommer and a proud grandmother to Avett and Rowen

Sommer, children of Dustin and Melody, and Presley and Addison Sommer, children of Joshua

and Rachael. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren, especially

during the summers when she delighted in bringing all four together for activities, adventures,

and cherished family traditions.

Janette is survived by her partner, Ken Townsend; her sons and daughters-in-law; her four

beloved grandchildren; her siblings, Larry Obhof, Carol (Rick) Ward, and Sally (Jim) Meadors;

and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by

her parents; her brothers, Jerry (Maryann) Obhof and Donald Obhof; and her sister-in-law, Anita

Obhof.

Janette enjoyed gardening, farming, canning, pickleball, bowling, ceramics, and crafting. She

was also an enthusiastic Cleveland Guardians fan and fondly remembered attending games

throughout the 1990s. Whether tending her garden, preserving food from the harvest, creating

handmade crafts, or cheering on her favorite team, she found joy in sharing her passions with

those she loved.

Those who knew Janette will remember her generous heart, unwavering willingness to help

family and friends, and her special gift for making everyone feel welcome and included. She was

often the driving force behind family gatherings and holidays, bringing loved ones together and

creating memories that will be treasured for generations. A proud tomboy of her father, Janette

carried strength, determination, and compassion into every aspect of her life.

Her legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply, the friendships she nurtured, and the

countless lives she touched with her kindness, warmth, and generosity.

Family and friends are invited to gather June 19th at Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 South

Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with funeral services beginning at

Though she will be deeply missed, Janette’s love, laughter, and enduring spirit will remain

forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
