June 2, 1949 ~ December 3, 2021

James W. Simmons, Sr., 72, of Perry, went home to be with his Lord, Friday evening, December 3, 2021. He was born to Bonny and Mayme (Davis) Simmons on June 2, 1949. Jim was loving husband to his wife, Donna, of 34 years; father of James (Kathy) Simmons, Jr., Heather (John) Veller, Christopher (Vanessa) Meredith; grandfather of Joseph and Isabella Russo, and Willow Meredith; brother to Donna (Larry) Nowak, Susan (Wes) Fairchaild, and Tina Simmons. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Jim graduated from Perry High School, Class of 1967. He worked as a custodian at Perry Local Schools for 30 years. He managed the Perry Youth Pony and Little Leagues in the late 1970’s and early ‘80’s, as well as the Christian Gospel Softball League for over 20 years. He and his wife, Donna, ran the AWANA program at their church for more than 25 years. In addition, he taught Sunday School classes for over 50 years. Jim worked constantly, even in retirement. His retirement hobby—greatest past-time—raising over 2000 varieties of daylilies at his home. He was a humble servant and a man of Faith, and surely present with our Lord and Saviour.
