James R. "Dick" Horst

James R. "Dick" Horst, age 91 of Kingsville Township, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014. He was born March 14, 1923 in Ashtabula to Helen (Shamp) & Clarence Horst.
Dick was a 1941 graduate of Ashtabula High School. He received a BA from The Ohio State University and a MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. In 1989 Dick retired from teaching at Ashtabula High School. He had also taught at Ledgemont, Ashtabula Harbor and Kent State Ashtabula. Dick was a former member of Madison Kiwanis, involved in Habitat for Humanity and a member of the Ashtabula Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of the American Legion Post 112 and he enjoyed golfing and bowling. Most of all he enjoyed time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl Ludwig of Sheffield Twp., Sue (Elmer) Heinsius of Plain City, Sandy Ashcroft of N. Kingsville, Brad Horst of Roanoke, VA, Beth White of Phelan, CA, Kelley (Mike) Louden of Ashtabula; 12 grandchildren; 4 great –grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Mackey of Ashtabula. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Arlene & Bernice; brothers, Jack and Carl.
Friends will be received 5-8 pm Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 26 River Street, Madison, OH 44041. A funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, October 15th at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
