James Paul J.P. Pitts, 82, of Madison, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. He was born May 1, 1935 in Fort Grand, WV to Homer and Velma (Halfin) Pitts. J.P. graduated from high school in 1953 and joined the Marine Corps, serving in Korea during Korean Conflict. He then worked for the railroad for 49 years, retiring in 2005 as senior engineer. He married Ruth Ann Burns on September 16, 1989 in Ambridge, PA. His lifelong passion was aviation, flying single engine aircraft all over the country. He was also licensed as an instructor and enjoyed teaching others the skill of flying. J.P. is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ruth; daughters Carol (Robert) Lyons and Diane E. Kane; grandchildren Aimee Dalton and Kendle Curry. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother David Pitts. Friends will be received Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon at Behm Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. A service will immediately follow visitation at noon in the funeral home and Madison Honor Guard will present military honors. Final resting place will be Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Jay Wilson Post 112, 6671 Middle Ridge Road, Madison, OH 44057. Friends may leave condolences online at www.behmfuneral.com

Dear Ruth Very sad to hear this afternoon Paul passed away. Chelsea and I were just there a few days ago to see the Cadillac Paul got for you. He was so happy! You are in my thoughts.

Our condolences go out to Ruth and the family. I have known Jim since I was a child. We worked together gor many years till he retired. We lived around the corner for many years. He and Ruth have always been part of our lives.
He will be missed.
