James (Jimmy) A. R. Stevens, Madison, OH passed away January 4, 2015 at Tripoint Medical Center in Painesville, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 30, 1944 in Cleveland, OH. Jimmy resided the greater portion of his life in Fairport Harbor and was a 1962 graduate of Harding High School. He was a gifted local musician and respected guitar instructor who instilled the joy of music in a wide range of listeners and students over the years. He was also skilled in repair and restoration of musical instruments. Jimmy taught privately from his home and professionally at Bleckerts Music, The Music Factory, Ayer's Music, Clarks Music, and Madtown Rock 'n' Praise. He was a frequent participant in local church praise bands. Jimmy performed at many area venues with a range of musicians and was co-president of V.M.G., the Village Musicians Guilde with long-time friend and fellow guitarist Leonard A. Thomas, Fairport Harbor. He was a past member of Musicians Union 657 and participated at NAMM conventions in Nashville, TN and Anaheim, CA. Jimmy was an avid reader of sci-fi, military, and aircraft books and a Hot Rod enthusiast. When not stroking a guitar he could be found tuning an auto engine. He loved a good debate and didn't hesitate to share his opinion, his critique or his praise. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Susan E. Stevens (Harrison) of 38 yrs.; sisters, Cheryl Rymer of Thompson and Pamela Zalek of Fairport Harbor and brother-in-law, Douglas Harrison (Lori) of Fairport Harbor. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of his "adopted" guitar grandchildren. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents James F. and Roberta A. (Bobbie) Stevens. The family extends thanks to Pastor Dan Knipp and members of Christian Life Church and to Hospice of the Western Reserve for their prayers and support. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Christian Life Church, 8250 Garfield Rd., Mentor, OH. A Celebration Jam is being planned for a future date. THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME of Madison is assisting the family.
