James H. Lyons

James H. Lyons, age 91 of Madison, Ohio passed away April 12, 2017 at Briar Hill Healthcare in Middlefield. He was born November 6, 1925 in Cleveland the son of Margaret Ann Sheets and Edward E. Lyons.
With his passing, we have lost a great World War II veteran. On D-Day in Normandy, France, Mr. James Lyons was with the U.S. Army 2nd Range Batt. Co. F. (Force A). Force A was to land and scale Pointe du Hoc at Omaha Beach. Their purpose was to disable Radar Installations and Navel Gun Emplacements before the main invasion. Being successful, he and his unit were assigned behind enemy lines to disrupt Communication, Radar, Artillery and Bunkers.
The 2nd, Rangers served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes Alsace until the end of the war.
Mr. Lyons was wounded several times during the war, receiving gunshot and scrap metal to the entire left side of his body. Despite this, he returned to combat. After his discharge, he had a long career with Local 17 Iron Workers.
He was an ordinary man as were the thousands of other men who fought, bled and died physically and mentally for our country and our beliefs, of Freedom and Liberties. To us, his family, and all the thousands of families, these men are the True Heroes.
Mr. Lyons is survived by his daughter, Margaret Lyons Snyder of Geneva; son, James Lyons, Jr. of Painesville; grandchildren, Angie Lyons, James (Angel) Lyons III, John Lyons Jr., Chris Lyons, Blaine Snyder and Laureen (Rob) Sevegen and 12 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 2007, son, John and his parents.
Friends will be received from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, Ohio 44057. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Final resting place will be Madison Memorial Cemetery.

Dear Lyons Family, Larry and I came to really respect and love your father,grandfather and great grandfather, as he faithfully visited and shopped at out sons and daughter in-laws store,D'Abates Madison Market, (Dan, Lisa and Daryl). It was sad to hear of his passing and he will be greatly missed.may he now Rest In Peace. Our deepest sympathy to you all.
