Lyons. With his passing, we have lost a great World War II veteran. On D-Day in Normandy, France, Mr. James Lyons was with the U.S. Army 2nd Range Batt. Co. F. (Force A). Force A was to land and scale Pointe du Hoc at Omaha Beach. Their purpose was to disable Radar Installations and Navel Gun Emplacements before the main invasion. Being successful, he and his unit were assigned behind enemy lines to disrupt Communication, Radar, Artillery and Bunkers. The 2nd, Rangers served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes Alsace until the end of the war. Mr. Lyons was wounded several times during the war, receiving gunshot and scrap metal to the entire left side of his body. Despite this, he returned to combat. After his discharge, he had a long career with Local 17 Iron Workers. He was an ordinary man as were the thousands of other men who fought, bled and died physically and mentally for our country and our beliefs, of Freedom and Liberties.
