Irene M. Berkopec

Irene M. Berkopec, age 92, of Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away November 26, 2013 at Independence Village of Avon Lake. She was born May 9, 1921 in Cleveland to Frieda (Dombrowsky) & Arthur B. Kelly. She married Joseph Berkopec, Jr. in Geneva on August 24, 1946.
Irene was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Cleveland and a 1943 graduate of Ohio University. She came to Geneva in 1945 to teach elementary school students and was an election precinct worker for 20 years. Irene was also a Brownie Leader and past president of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Post 124. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Geneva, Irene resided in Geneva for 65 years prior to moving nearer to her daughter. Irene was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy (Allen) Hook; son-in-law, Jon Boomhower; grandchildren, Laura (Edward) Krueger, Joseph, Sarah, and Elizabeth Boomhower; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, and Ella Krueger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph and beloved daughter, Emmy Boomhower.
Friends will be received from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home, immediately following visitation at 12:00 pm. Final Resting Place will be Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva.
