Harland Hines

Harland W. “Wendell” Hines, age 89, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Saybrook Landing. He was born to Harland R. and Evelyn S. (Stansbury) Hines January 24, 1935 in Windsor, Ohio. Wendell started dating Mary Lou when he was 16 and they were married on October 23, 1954, in Jefferson Ohio.
He was a concrete finisher, car salesman and helped his brother Delwin in the construction of homes. He worked at Rockwell International Brake Division for 30 years retiring in 1987. Following retirement, he had a landscaping business while in Florida and also worked on the Ashtabula County Highway Dept’s construction crew helping with renovations of various Covered Bridges.
Wendell, “the maker of fine saw dust,” enjoyed making furniture, his own urn, and many other fine pieces for family and friends. He and Mary Lou enjoyed traveling, gardening and welcoming people into their home. A yearly tradition of Wendell’s was gathering the family together and to make apple butter in his well loved copper kettle.
He was a long time member of the Jefferson Church of Nazarene and also the Hernando Church of the Nazarene in Florida, holding many positions at both churches.
Wendell is survived by his children, Brenda and Steven Niro, Donna and Mike Adams, Linda and Dave Masirovits, Wally and Rose Hines, Gary and Jennifer Hines, Daniel and Kim Hines, Mark and Sheri Hines; 31 Grandchildren; 56 Great-Grandchildren; and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Hines, Marian Sullivan, Ruth Reeve, Lenora Hinkle-Evans; brother-in-law, Don and Donna Flack, beloved 4 legged little doggie, Chloe.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise (Flack) Hines; his brothers, Walden, Delwin, Rolland, Daryl, Myron, and Lowell Hines; and a sister in infancy, Harlena Hines.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 pm. Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, 55 East Satin Street, Jefferson, Ohio, 44047. A service will follow at 4:00 pm officiated by Pastor Curtis Cecil and Pastor Mike Adams. Burial will be at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson.
