Gladys Mae (Miller) Smith, 78, of Harpersfield Township (Geneva), a much loved teacher, passed away Feb. 24, 2007, following a long stay at the Cleveland Clinic. She succumbed from complications resulting from a fall in her home Oct. 13, 2006. Her body remains at the Cleveland Clinic as part of the clinic Body Donation Program dedicated to medical research. Gladys was born in Fall River, Mass., Feb. 25, 1928, to Rev. and Mrs. Alva Miller. Gladys was a 1946 graduate of Crestline High School and received her degree in elementary education from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1950. Gladys was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1993, Gladys retired with honors from the Perry School System, receiving the P.C.T.A. award and the 1989-90 "Teacher of the Year Award". Gladys was a second grade teacher for 35 and a half years. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, manicuring her lawn, family and friends, traveling with her husband, wintering out of state for several years, and decorating their home for every season. Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Lyman E. Smith; daughters, Colette (nee, Smith) Crouse (fiance, Paul Nichelson), of Canton, Ga., and Valerie (nee, Smith) (Eddie) Pasko of Austinburg; grandchildren, Melissa (Andy Heniger) Crouse of Andover, Shannon (Bryan Clark) Ray of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Gabriel James and Kylee June; sister, Ruth (nee, Miller) (Robert) Lewis of Columbus; brother, Lynn (Emilie) Miller of Fair Oaks, Calif.; sister-in -law, Virginia (nee, Smith) (Walter) Hogans of Osgood, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
